Soheil Kolouri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Vanderbilt University and an AI Fellow at the Vanderbilt Lab for Immersive AI Translation (VALIANT).
Dr. Kolouri’s research focuses on mathematical machine learning, computational optimal transport, and geometric deep learning. His work aims to develop next-generation machine learning (Next-Gen ML) algorithms that address key challenges in the field, including sample and label efficiency, explainability, robustness, and lifelong/continual learning.
Before joining academia in Fall 2021, Dr. Kolouri spent five years as a research scientist and principal investigator at HRL Laboratories, LLC, in Malibu, CA, where he led several DARPA programs, including Lifelong Learning Machines (L2M) and Learning with Less Labels (LwLL). He earned his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in 2015, receiving the Best Dissertation Award from the Biomedical Engineering Department and the Bertucci Fellowship Award. His research has been recognized with several honors, including the NSF CAREER Award and the Best Paper Award at ICASSP in 2023.
Dr. Kolouri is PI for a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) project submitted to the Department of the Navy by Pangea in partnership with Vanderbilt University.
