Erdem Erdemir is a Lead Consultant in business intelligence, applied AI/ML, predictive maintenance, and mechatronics at Pangea.
Professor Erdemir holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, an MS degree in Systems Engineering from Bogazici University in Turkey, and a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same university.
Dr. Erdemir is a highly adaptable engineer, developer, and team leader with extensive research experience in research and development (R&D), robotics, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, and software development across diverse areas. He brings industrial expertise in R&D and project management. Currently, he serves as an associate professor of computer science and the director of the Biomechatronics and Agricultural Robotics (BAR) Lab at Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN. Leading a team comprising Ph.D., Master's, and undergraduate students at the BAR Lab, he oversees cutting-edge research in cognitive robotics, hybrid intelligent systems, meso-scale robotics for biomedical applications, and intelligent agricultural robotics. Notable achievements include securing substantial grants, such as a USDA grant for developing a Meso-Scale Intelligent Robot for Water Leak Detection, and another grant aimed at improving nursery production using unmanned aircraft systems. Furthermore, he has made significant contributions to academia, teaching a wide range of courses in computer science and engineering, including artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and computer vision.
During his tenure as a visiting research scientist at Google, he applied deep learning techniques for robotics, making impactful strides in the research realm. Before assuming his current role, he held positions as a postdoctoral research associate at Vanderbilt University and as a scientific programmer and research assistant at the Center for Intelligent Mechatronics (CIM). He worked on projects funded by prestigious organizations such as the NSF, NIH, NASA, and DoD. His contributions included developing real-time control systems for medical devices and actively powered prosthetic limbs, as well as pioneering algorithms for vision data fusion in UAVs. Erdem Erdemir's industry experience encompasses serving as an R&D Leader at General Systems Design, the primary distributor of General Electric in Turkey. There, he established and managed an R&D department with a multimillion-dollar budget. Noteworthy projects included designing data collection systems for Coca-Cola production lines, developing flow meters and automated warehouse plans, and implementing automation systems for BP filling plants. He has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, complemented by practical experience in industry, showcasing his ability to bridge the gap between theory and application.
